Public Art for trees and their neighbors
Hyde Park, 9/10 - 11/2/2026
Tree Care is a public art project that celebrates and expands the community of care between urban trees and their human neighbors in Hyde Park, which is experiencing the greatest decrease in tree canopy of any neighborhood in the city. Through a series of gatherings, textiles, and sculpture, community members will learn about the role of urban trees in their homes and neighborhood and cocreate plant dyed fabric pennants with their thoughts and dreams for and about the trees. The main installation will be at the Hyde Park Branch Library in the main reading room and outside on the front lawn.
Tree Care is partnering with 6-8 community organizations who are doing work to address tree canopy equity and preservation in Hyde Park on these gatherings; together we are tagging the trees protected and planted in the neighborhood to invite the community into a culture of care with their tree neighbors.
