Project 4 (Part A) Source/Independent Project

The last project of the semester you will explore your source idea as an independent time based multimedia project. Your project can be any size and shape, made from any material(s) and can be installed in any location on or around campus. Your time based 4-D project must include elements of 2-D, 3-D or both.

You must turn in a minimum one-page, typed proposal stating three separate ways of exploring your source idea for your Final Project. Be sure to include all materials, sizes and locations. Your proposal should answer all the questions listed below. You should include sketches and images that illustrate your idea.

Your proposal is due in class next week, April 9. Your Final Project proposal must be approved before work can begin. Once I approve your project idea and proposal, IT CANNOT BE CHANGED.

After approval, you must then finalize every aspect of your idea, in a second typed paper, to present in class the following week, April 23. You will discuss your proposal ideas with the class for additional feedback and recommendations.
Remember, this project is worth 40% of your grade and is the most important project of the semester. Your Final Project should reflect your strongest interests coupled with the influence from all previous assignments this semester. Concept and Craftsmanship should be at the highest level. You cannot receive credit, or an “incomplete” for this class without a passing grade for the Final Project.

If your final project is unsatisfactory and needs to be re-done, you will have one week in which to correct it for a re-review. If, in the following week, your project remains unsatisfactory, you will receive a grade of “No Credit” for the class and have to repeat Visual Language in another semester.

In order to develop your concept, answer all of the following questions:
• Which media should I use? sculpture, painting, photography, video, sound, performance, etc.
• What size is right for my piece? scale plays an important role in the meaning of your work
• What materials? photo, video, paint, wood, steel, fibers, eggs, jello, hair, etc.
• What techniques? drawing, sewing, woodworking, hand-forming, rubberstamping, digital, etc.
• How should my piece be presented? on the wall, floor, ceiling, table, etc.
• Where should my piece be presented? what is the ultimate location for my work?
• What are possible challenges/problems for creating this piece? what if I can’t find my materials?
what if my location is unavailable?
