Images about a Source
"I am more interested
in how one thinks about something, than in what something looks like.
I am interested in what a house or figure might mean to me. I am interested
in my capacity to refer to it in terms of sculpture, but not to illustrate
it orr to describe it." - Joel Shapiro, sculptor
"I like elements which are hybrid rather than pure, compromising
rather than clean, distorted rather than articulated, perverse as well
as personal, boring as well as interesting, conventional rathher than
designed, accommodating rather than excluding, redundant rather than simple,
vestigial as well as innovating, inconsistent and equivocaather than excluding,
redundant rather than simple, vestigal as well as innovating, inconsistent
and equivoca l rather than direct and clear..." - Robert Venturi,
architect
Project Description: Document in digital slides a topic which is of significant
interest to you and that you might use as a basis for your ensuing independent
project. The sources topic is anything you define it to be: subjective,
objective, purely visual, social/political implications, emotional or
intellectual.
Secondly, type a one-page paper which gives meaning to the source. In
this paper, try to define and identify the significance this source holds
for you. Note: Avoid cliches, unless your interests are, in fact, about
cliches.
Guidelines for the Sources Images: all images must be scanned as was learned
last semester. Please avoid using low quality images from the web. So
your images should be at least 180 dpi and at least 4” x 7”.
Images resed up from a smaller webdownloaded image will look poor. Make
sure that you include the caption, artists name, and size/medium with
each image.
Guidelines for the presentation of the images -Prepare your presentation
by putting your images in the order you wish to present them to the class.
Ideally you should make a Powerpoint Presentation. There are other ways
to do this as well: Imovie, Iphoto, etc. Discuss why you respond to this
area of interest - an interpretation which lends meaning to the choice.
Use music or a sound recording to augment the expressive ideas evoked
by the images.
Guidelines for the Sources Paper - The purpose of this one page typed
paper is to describe the significance this source has for you, it will
allow you to make more conscious connections in working with this topic.
It will give your work more depth, resonance and expressive power. - If
you don't know why something interests you, say so. What meaning does
this source have to you? If you are able to establish the meaning of your
topic, you will have a greater sense of direction in future work you do
with this topic. Also I'm not looking for a lot of words just to fill
up the page. If you can express what you need to succinctly, in a paragraph,
then do so.
All papers must be typed to receive credit.
