All students of VL 1 and 2 are required to purchase the book "LAUNCHING THE IMAGINATION" by Mary Stewart. The purpose of this book is to give you the basic understanding of vocabulary commonly used and understood in western contemporary visual culture. The book also helps to add to the general sense of structure and focus about the course. Enough copies of the books have been ordered for the MassArt bookstore so that each student can purchase a copy.

You will need to purchase a hard drive, click here for info.

You will need to prioritize and budget to spend some money on materials
Three-ring notebook
Small Exacto with Extra Blades
Digital camera (we will use the departments, but if you have your own bring it with the instruction book)
Metal Yard Ruler and 12” Plastic Triangle
Portfolio (can be two pieces of cardboard and a plastic bag, whatever you need to protect your work)
Optional: (But a good thing to know about) Proportion Wheel
(Other tools may be needed.)
LABEL ALL TOOLS AND NEVER LEAVE UNATTENDED.
