Description:
Visual Language 1 and 2 is a two-semester experience that completes an arc. Visual Language 1 is taught in the fall semester, and Visual Language 2 is taught in the spring. Skill emphasized include:

Image development
You will explore multiple aspects of creative thinking and making through a number of projects.

2D Design Vocabulary
You will learn a formal vocabulary, including the elements of line, shape, space, texture, value, color, as well as the basics of composition: unity & variety, weight & gravity, scale & proportion, balance, multiplication, rhythm, pattern, time, space with which to develop your imagery.Objectives:
1. To know and learn how to apply the elements and principles of art and design to the image making process.
2. To become familiar with digital technology as a tool to develop your ideas.
3. To acquire and develop research and critical thinking skills to complement your creative process.
4. To develop the ability to represent ideas in visual form from multiple sources and approaches.

Required Texts:
Art Fundamentals by Ocvirk, Stinson, Wigg, Bone, Cayton (purchase at bookstore)
The Critique Handbook, Kendall Buster and Paula Crawford

Techniques:
Digital: Mac literacy, basic Photoshop; scanning; burning CD's; printing, using a portable hard drive; Digital Photo Camera; importing; tiling.
Material media skills involving paper, glue, mat board and basic knowledge of media such as gouache, cut paper, ink.
