Alexia Foundation for World Peace Annual Photography Contest

$15,000 for the production of a proposed project. The Alexia Foundation seeks to "provide the financial ability for a photographer to produce a substantial picture story that furthers the foundation's goals of promoting world peace and cultural understanding." If you've received a grant or award exceeding $1,000 in the previous year, you're not eligible. Judges look for entries that conceive concise, focused and meaningful story proposals.

The Artists Exploration Fund, made possible by a generous grant from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, is designed to enable individual performing artists to pursue opportunities abroad that further their artistic development. The CAA's Professional Development Fellowship for Master of Fine Arts Candidates was initiated to help M.F.A. students to bridge the gap between graduate study and professional careers. Each fellow receives support over a period of two years: In the first year, CAA grants $5,000 to each fellow to use during the final year of his/hers MFA program. In year two, CAA helps each fellow search for employment at a museum, art center, college, or university. The Daniel Langlois Foundation for Art, Science, and Technology annually awards two grants to individuals making an exceptional contribution to advancing knowledge at the crossroads of art, science, and technology, or to individuals whose projects are highly original or innovative. The Alexander S. The Artadia Award is unique, providing substantial financial support, critical validation and broader public exposure for artists across the country:

    * Cash awards are granted in participating cities on a rotating basis.

    * Application is open to all visual artists who reside in Artadia's participating cities.

    * A two-tiered selection process combines local expertise with outside perspectives from leading national and international curators and artists.

Artist-in-Residence - Harrington School (Lexington, MA)

The Harrington Elementary school in Lexington is seeking an Artist-in-Residence to work with staff and children on the creation of a hallway mural. The mural will adorn an 80Õ long hallway on the upper floor of the newly built Harrington school. The school includes grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. The selected artist must be an experienced muralist with a proven ability to work well with children. The Artist-in-Residence will work in conjunction with children and staff on both the thematic design of the mural as well as painting the mural. Themes under consideration include those involving social development, social consciousness and appreciation for cultural diversity and community. Art in Education Book Arts Residency - Women's Studio Workshop (Rosendale, NY)

Each year the Women's Studio Workshop (WSW) awards two eight-week Art-in-Education residency grants for emerging artists working in book arts. Grantees will teach young people through the studio-based Art-in-Education program entitled "Hands-on-Art" and have the opportunity to spend time creating new work at WSW. Each award includes a $3,200 stipend, a $500 materials budget, housing, travel costs (within the Continental US), and unlimited studio access.  More Info >

 

Artist Grants - Franklin Furnace (Brooklyn, NY)

Franklin Furnace's mission is to present, preserve, interpret, proselytize and advocate on behalf of avant-garde art, especially forms that may be vulnerable due to institutional neglect, their ephemeral nature, or politically unpopular content. Each year Franklin Furnace awards grants in two categories. The Franklin Furnace Fund for Performance Art supports emerging performance artists, allowing them to produce major works in New York. The Future of the Present funds the creation of live art on the Internet, works which engage the Internet as an art medium and/or venue. Grants from either fund range between $2,000 and $5,000. Worldstudio Scholarships - World Studio Foundation (New York, NY)

World Studio Foundation provides scholarships to minority and economically disadvantaged students who are studying the design/arts disciplines. Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of creative ability and financial need, and demonstrated commitment to contribute to the larger community. Ethnic diversity is a critical concern of the Foundation. Scholarships are awarded in the amounts of $1,000 to $2,000. The Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund (New York, NY)

The Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund provides grants to students actively working for peace and justice. These need-based scholarships are awarded to those able to do academic work at the university level and who are part of the progressive movement on the campus and in the community. Early recipients worked for civil rights, against McCarthyism, and for peace in Vietnam. The Paul Robeson Fund for Independent Media - The Funding Exchange (New York, NY)

The Paul Robeson Fund for Independent Media supports media activism and grassroots organizing by funding the pre-production and distribution of social issue film and video projects, and the production and distribution of radio projects. The primary purpose of the Fund is to support independent media productions that are politically and artistically compelling, but can also be used for progressive activism and organizing. The Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation was organized in 1956 by concerned industry leaders as a nonprofit, private, industry-directed corporation to develop and dispense scholarship and fellow assistance to talented young men and women who are interested in graphic communications careers. To be eligible to compete for a scholarship award, the student must be interested in a career in graphic communications, be a high school senior or a high school graduate that has not yet started college, or a college student who is enrolled in a two- or four-year college program. Resident Artist Program - Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts (Helena, MT)

The Archie Bray Foundation for the Ceramic Arts is a public, nonprofit, educational institution founded in 1951 by brickmaker Archie Bray, who intended it to be "a place to make available for all who are seriously and sincerely interested in any of the branches of the ceramic arts, a fine place to work." Its primary mission is to provide an environment that stimulates creative work in ceramics. What defines a residency at the Archie Bray Foundation, and the reasons are for doing one, are as varied and unique as the individuals involved. Some artists come to develop a portfolio for graduate school, some use their residency as a transition from school to establishing their own studio, and others see it as a chance to escape from daily routine and recharge their creative enthusiasm. Artist-in-Residence Porgram - Kala Art Institute (Berkeley, CA)

The Kala Artist-in-Residence (AIR) Program provides accepted artists with 24-hour access to KalaÕs Print Studio and Electronic Media Center. Established in 1974, KalaÕs AIR program is geared towards providing short- and long-term communal studio space at low monthly rates to both emerging and established artists. Artist Residency - Interdisciplinary Lab for Art, Nature and Dance (New York, NY)

Interdisciplinary Lab for Art, Nature and Dance (iLAND) investigates the power of dance, in collaboration with other fields, to illuminate our kinetic understanding of the world. iLAB is a collaborative residency program between movement-based artists and scientists, environmentalists, urban designers/landscape architects, architects and others that will integrate creative practice within varied fields/disciplines.
