Polar Bears

We all have to be really thrilled about the news today. Thanks to NRDC and the environmental groups who put pressure on the Federal government to list polar bears on the endangered species list. I wonder if the 12 month waiting period will cause irrevocable damage to their habit……., but in the mean time this is good news and gives inspiration to the rest of us struggling to save Creation.

As a side note, I am in Bozeman, Mt with unusually warm weather and little snow on the ground. It is amazing to take a week off from the office, but notice that I cannot escape the climate news, but, then, nor do I want to.

The wonder and mystery of Christmas is past us, but the love of god that resides in each of us will inspire and envelop us all year. It is this love that will, in the end, save us all.

Howdy all yous guys,

We often discuss global warming issues and the effects on the arctic at our Group. Our view point is from the art and artifacts of the North.

I have started an internet discussion group.

The Inuit and Indian art Group

Artists, collectors, dealers, teachers, curators, etc. discuss various related topics by e-mail.

We started nearly 3 years ago now and we are already in 15 countries on 5 continents with well over 300 members. We have several artists; plus 15 Inuit, Inuvaluit, Inupiat or Aleut members; and 54 Indian members. We also have numerous collectors and dealers.

I am sorry to say that the comment posted by the good priest Sally B. is not helpful and this belief will not save us or the polar bears. Much of the Earth’s astounding number of creatures are extinct and others may evolve. Let’s work another angle to slow global warming and save ursus maritmus!

Comments don’t need to be helpfull, sometimes its just good to hear what is in someones heart. Your comment is even less helfull. so who cares? Lets focues on what we like, more than what we don’t like. Its important to talk about what would work more than what will not work.

I believe that it is love that will play the most important role in saving Creation. As the human spirit evolves and matures, love will replace selfishness and greed. Indeed, we must have hope and love in our hearts or the darkness of despair will dominate and nothing will survive.

It must be something so human to wish for a unified thing that can solve a problem. I think we all know that our environmental problems are too huge for any one change, but still I so often see people criticizing efforts that they see as alone or too small. Why can’t we more regularly imagine thats its a flood, a huge tidal wave, of small efforts from every imaginable person, place, and thing that will change things?

The image of drowning polar bears, which entered my consciousness after I heard a story on NPR last month, crystallized something about global warming for me in a way that no other news had to date. I have been shocked by the tempature records and photos of melting glaciers, but none of those news items struck an emotional chord in me, the way the polar bears did. The idea of such a noble creature, designed for the artic climes, no longer being able to survive is so poignant. I started thinking about the drowning polar bears every time I get in my car or turn on the light. I hope that everyone on the planet can find something in this global story of climate change which captures both their heart and conscience.
